Introduction to herbal medicine

WHAT IS Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine?

A wonderful way to support your health, Chinese Herbal Medicine involves using a combination of herbs, known as a formula,  to help you rebalance from within. Prescribed according to your unique symptoms and your body’s constitution, traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine works holistically—rather than just on isolated conditions— to help you heal.

HOW DOes herbal medicines WORK?

Herbal medicine works synergistically alongside acupuncture and other TCM therapies to restore balance within. While acupuncture rebalances the system from our external body by the insertion of small needles to manipulate qi, herbal medicine helps to rebalance the system from the internal body by nourishing it through specific herbs chosen to address the imbalances. Herbal medicine will typically require a longer treatment period due to the fact that it is restoring the body as a whole rather than merely masking symptoms. This means that taking herbal medicines can sometimes be a matter of taking them for a few months. Healing is a slower process when taking herbal medicines, yet the outcomes are usually longer lasting.
